Cape of Good Hope is known as being the most southern part of the African continent, but it is not in reality (Cape Agulhas is). But, it is no reason to not visit this beautiful scenery! The famous sign which states you are on the most southern part of the African continent can be found there (yes, even if it is not the most southern part ;)). On the same sight you can also find Cape Point, which consists of a big peak with a lighthouse tower on it with an amazing view.

In this blog I will take you on how we experienced this journey! visiting Boulders Beach on the way!

On a hot sunday in South Africa we decided to do a mini roadtrip from Cape Town to Cape Point. The drive is under one and a half hour and takes us to through Muizenberg (if you want to see or do some surfing), Simon’s Town (home of the penguins on Boulders Beach) and eventually to our destination: Cape Point.

Boulders Rock

A short stop at Boulders Rock is recommended! Here you get a cool look on penguins strolling around everywhere. There is a small entrance fee if you want to enter the beach sight. The African land penguins are endangered and there is a colony of about 2,000 birds. Be advised, they smell ;-).

Cape Point

Off we went again towards Cape Point. During your drive you will notice the nature getting the upper hand and signs warning about baboons everywhere. Not much further and you will encounter them! Be sure you be aware as they can become very aggressive! No wonder the signs warn “Baboons are dangerous WILD animals!”

After a short stop and paying a small fee we entered Cape Point, which is a big nature park itself. Just a 10 minute drive from the gate towards the lighthouse. On your way you will probably spot some wild Ostriches!

And after a short walk towards the top, it is picture time. Walk up towards the light tower for an AMAZING view! Watch down as the water comes hard on the cliffs for some spectacular sights and enjoy the breathtaking environment.

As you can see, visiting Cape Point can be recommended as a day trip if you are in the Cape Town area. Be sure to enjoy it!
