Brussels is the capital of Belgium. But it is so much more than just a culture. In Belgium, the Flenders (Dutch speaking) and Wallonia (French speaking) who are divided in the country meet in their capital. I know there is a German enclave in the east but that is a bit further ;-). It is also the capital of the European Union (or, at least a lot of meetings happen here). The total city is home to 1,8 million people, including the suburbs. It is a mixed pot of different nationalities, making it a diverse city with a rich history. Perfect for a day trip!
Bruges (or in Dutch: Brugge) is the biggest city and the capital of the Belgium province of West-Vlaanderen. It is famously known for its historical city centre dating back to the medieval ages, which is an UNESCO World Heritage site. We visited Bruges in December, hence forth the winter edition :)! Bruges is the most recommended Belgium city by us, and we will let you know why you have to visit this amazing place while you are in the area.
Yesterday we had the opportunity for a short helicopter flight over Maaseik (Belgium) and Roosteren (Netherlands). Check out the footage below! 🙂
