Visiting the New 7 Wonders of the World: Colosseum Rome

Highly noted on my bucket list I have noted down to see the new 7 Wonders of the World in this life time. The first one to write about that I visited is the only World Wonder in Europe, the Colosseum in Italy, Rome.

Background story

The new 7 Wonders of the World consist of seven iconic heritage sights. Wanna read more about it? Just check the Wikipedia page about it.

It is good to know that the wonders are spread out all over the world, namely:

  • Great Wall of China, China China;
  • Petra, Jordan Jordan;
  • Christ the Redeemer, Brazil Brazil;
  • Machu Picchu, Peru Peru;
  • Chichen Itza, Mexico Mexico;
  • Colosseum, Italy Italy;
  • Taj Mahal , India India.

Visiting the Colosseum

Being an European, visiting the Colosseum is the easiest one of the bunch. Located in Rome, a city trip to this World Wonder destination is one you will never forget. From the beautiful Vatican City to the many fountains. Rome is amazing. But, that is not what this blog is about. The Colosseum is located in the centre of Rome and easy accessible by public transport. Be sure to buy your ticket beforehand, € 14,- total costs per person.

There is a time frame in which you can visit. Be sure to show up on time. Not to just take some awesome pictures from the outside of the Colosseum and it surroundings, but also because of the big que infront of the World Wonder. You can also purchase tickets at the ticket booth just outside the Colosseum, but I advice to purchase them beforehand. Better to be safe than sorry ;).

Surroundings

The Colosseum is surrounded by many beautiful sights. From the Arco di Costantino (Arch of Constantine), the beautiful Palatine Hill. Enough to fill a whole day besides visiting the Colosseum in the area :)!

Inside the Colosseum

But, the main event is the World Wonder. This massive building will catch your eye from every side at every hour of the day (be sure to also visit the Colosseum at night for a cool shot!).

Walk around through the big hallways on the ground level and go up to the top to visit the inside of the Colosseum. See where all the gladiators and animals fought with eachother for the pleasure of the 50,000 spectators. Truly an amazing sight!

Great shot of the whole Colosseum

Be sure to visit the Palentine Hill (it is possible to get a combination ticket with your entrance to the Colosseum) for a great shot from distance over the whole Colosseum!
